When trying to create a chart using MT4 data, if you can't find any data then this is the article you're looking for. If some files are visible but not all of them then you'll want to look at this article.
First of all we need to check if there actually is any MT4 historical data to find. Open up MT4 and go to File -> Open data folder (Sometimes also called "Open Data Directories"). Windows File Explorer will open the folder in which MT4 saves its data. If you don't see any data files you will want to take a look at this article.
If there are data files in that folder then Sentient Trader is looking in the wrong place.
In the window that is opened by MT4 as per the instructions above, right-clicked on the address bar (which is highlighted by a red arrow in the screenshot). There click on the option "Copy address as text". Then open up any word processor (Microsoft Word, Notepad, etc...) and paste. A path will be pasted into the word processor. Mine looks like this:
C:\Users\sjgar\AppData\Roaming\MetaQuotes\Terminal\8E0FB98B23D02A39281037BA9EF3BA6F
Now go into Sentient Trader and click on Add a new chart to workspace, select MT4 data and click on Data Directories in the top left-hand corner. Select browse and follow the path that you pasted into the word processor.
On some systems one or more folders may be hidden (in the above case the folder "AppData" is a hidden folder). Depending on the settings on your computer such a folder may not be visible. If you cannot find one of the folders in the path:
- If you are using Windows 10: please open up Windows File Explorer. Click on File -> Change folder and search options. Under the View tab you will find the option "Show hidden files, folders and drives". Select that option, then restart Sentient Trader and you will be able to find the missing folder.
- If you are working with a different version of Windows simply search for "How to show hidden files windows [Windows version]". You will find simple and clear instructions for all versions of Windows.
After following the correct path inside Sentient Trader click on history and select the folder with your server's name. Click OK and you will see ST loads your historical data.
So, in the example above the path in the Sentient Trader browse window needs to be:
C:\Users\sjgar\AppData\Roaming\MetaQuotes\Terminal\8E0FB98B23D02A39281037BA9EF3BA6F\history\Darwinex-Demo
