Envelopes

With Sentient Trader version 4.0.1.0 onward the Envelopes feature is now available. In the Cycle Tools bar you will find this button:

Clicking on the button will show envelopes, unless the envelopes haven't been set up yet in which case it will open the envelope setup window. It is also always possible to access the setup window by clicking on the dropdown arrow to the right of the Envelopes button.

The setup window will look like this:

By default ST creates 3 envelopes for you. It is possible however to add more (by clicking the Add Envelope button), or remove envelopes (by clicking the Remove button in the panel of the envelope you want to remove).

For each envelope it is possible to specify:

• Average length (in bars): an envelope is a displaced moving average of this length.
• Displace back (in bars): this is the amount that the envelope is displaced into the past. Usually this is half the moving average length, but you can change it to suit you.
• Envelope height (in price): the height of the envelope. You may want to take a look at the work of Alain Vauthier (he discusses his approach in this webinar) who believes in using a "Gann octave" for the envelope heights. ST will estimate this when first defining the envelopes to give you a starting point to work with. This setting will need to be refined for each envelope (and the setting will also need to be updated periodically).
• Line width: this is in pixels.
• Line type: this can be solid, dashed or dotted.
• Line color: you can specify a color for each line.

Clicking on Done will create or update the envelopes.
